Memorable Characters
Taryn Blake
Taryn has been modeling since she can remember, that’s all she can do. All her mother lets her do. The top teen model feels the pressure and tries to rebel against everything: her mom and her bosses.
A failed suicide attempt gives her some time off modeling and she uses the time to befriend the new teen model: Laurie.
But Taryn gets tired of doing nothing and goes back to work a little sooner than expected, picking projects her mother does not really approve.
He dates rock star John Waite, but her mother, once again, ruins her plans.
Why? This was Nicollette’s first acting gig and she was sharing the screen with people like Morgan Fairchild, Brenda Vaccaro or Dack Rambo. Maybe not a difficult role considering Nicollette herself was coming from the modeling bussiness, but it’s not the same thing. Taryn was only 16 but she spoke her mind and didn’t like to be pushed around.
The Sure Thing
The typical California bombshell. She meets Gib’s friend and for what Lance tells her, doesn’t dislike the idea of sleeping with Gib when he goes to visit for Christmas break.
This no strings attached fling takes Gib in a cross-country road trip looking for his first time, for the sure thing.
When they finally meet, after a few words, she realizes he’s not really into her and Gib realizes he is actually in love with a college classmate, Alison and goes back to her.
Lots of bikini shots and only a few words, but they show some softness on the girl.
Why? It’s not a big role, I know. But the character name shares the movie title, that has to be something, right? And she is the reason John Cusack crosses the country. Don’t forget this was her first role on a feature, she portrays the girl nicely.
Paige Matheson
Paige was raised traveling the world with her mother, in New York with her grandparents and in a boarding school in Switzerland. Tired of her family, she faked her own death and lived off money by pawning jelwery.
At 19, she showed up on Knots Landing to meet her father, Mac.
Not only her affairs were varied and numerous but also her jobs. She worked on Lotus Point, in Greg Sumner’s company (getting a Degree in Art History at some point), at Tidal Energy, was given control of Sumner Group and finally moved to Manhattan where she became a business woman.
Why? I don’t think a teenage girl in a soap opera full of adults ever gave more to talk. Manipulative, she made her way into her father’s house and fought with every single person, even her mother. Fights for love were also present. Lots to do for a 23 years-old Nicollette in her first lasting role. She portraited Paige from 1986 til the end of the show in 1993.
Brooke Ashton/Vicki
Brooke Ashton in an actress on a travelling theatre group. Usually, pays no attention to other performers, is quite unaware of what happens around her and doesn’t take stage directions. She continues with her lines even if the rest of the cast are forced to change theirs. She is always losing her contact lenses. Brooke is also part of a love triangle with Lloyd (the director) and Poppy (the assistant stage manager). But finds the love on Garry.
Vicki is Brooke’s character. She works for Inland Revenue and is trying to get it on with Roger (Garry’s character).
Why? She’s playing two characters at once, not an easy task. And she’s sharing the screen with Michael Caine, Carol Burnett, Christopher Reeve and John Ritter. But she’s probably most remembered for being in her underwear in most part of the film.
Veronique Ukrinski, Agent 3.14
Veronique finds herself in a tough situation, her father has been kidnapped by General Rancor to make his computer chip evil and she is the key to find that chip.
She is also a KGB agent and teams up with Special Agent Dick Steel for the mission.
She gets captured by Rancor’s men and hidden on a hospital run by nuns. Even thouh often having to be saved by Dick, she’s capable of taking her of herself as she is well trained in martial arts.
When Veronique reuintes with Dick, together they go to Rancor’s secret base to stop him before he destroys the world.
Why? First because she rocks the Russian accent. Isn’t that enough for you? Because even if it’s not the first time she plays a strong woman, we actually see her kick some asses. She definitely has the moves.
Anna Morse
Anna married her boyfriend being quite young and had 3 daugthers. She finally gets tired of being both verbally and physical abused and moves out with her girls. But Anna has no money and her mother makes it clear she won’t be giving her any.
Problems begin when her too nice neighbors decide to take the girls away, but Laura decides to wait for her mother and is left behind.
Not everybody believes she didn’t give away her children or wether they might still be alive, but a police officer helps her to find them. She also decides to provide better for her children and accepts a job on her mother’s restaurant.
Why? Another strong character. I also like how she never loses her hope and works hard to pull herself together, even when people around her doubt her and try to get her down. And not all the 30-something actress like to play mom roles.
Dr. Danielle Morty
Danielle is going with Grace’s husband Leo to Guatemala with Doctors Without Borders. Grace is going along but decides to go on a cruise with her friends.
When they all meet, Danielle jokes about not knowing Leo was married. Grace’s friends make all kind of comments of Grace allowing her husband to go with that sexy doctor, but truth is she thought Dr. Morty was an old jew man.
But Grace trusts Leo, until she finds a letter on Leo’s pocket Danielle wrote revealing her true feelings for him and makes clear what her intentions during the trip are.
Why? It’s only a guest starring role. But she put some trouble into Grace and Leo’s marriage. And Jack’s reaction when he meets her is priceless.
Edie Britt
Edie Britt was an outcast on Wisteria Lane. She was married twice and gave custody of their son to his first husband. Known for having a busy love life, she tricked her way into her neighbors weekly poker game.
Good friends with Martha Huber and Karen McCluskey, she dated, long and briefly, her neighbors’ exhusbands: Karl, Mike and Carlos.
When a blackmail to Bree went wrong she was forced to move out of town. Five years later she returned with a new husband. But he wasn’t as happy as he made everyone believe. She finally died after an electrocution following a car crash while running away from Dave.
Why? Edie was the best out of all the women on the lane. She didn’t give a crap about others thought about her and was happy with who she was. She made some difficult decisions along the way but lived without regrets.
