Audiences accustomed to seeing Nicollette Sheridan as an aging vixen may not recognize her in Honeymoon for One.

The romantic comedy, which airs on the Hallmark Channel Saturday, offers her a chance to erase the image of her Desperate Housewives character Edie Britt. Edie was last seen crashing into a power pole, leaving the car and being electrocuted.

“This character is very kind and straight-forward,” Sheridan, 47, says. “She’s a successful Los Angeles advertising executive — all-business — in need of broadening her horizons.

“She catches her fiance (Patrick Baladi) cheating and decides to go on her honeymoon alone. When she arrives at his castle and soon-to-be golf course in Ireland, she meets the estate’s manager (Greg Wise). He is firmly rooted in the importance of family and preservation of the countryside. He’s just the one to get her to dig deeper and find true meaning in her life.”

Since exiting Desperate Housewives two years ago, Sheridan has been trying to find an equally eye-catching vehicle for herself. “I have at least one more series in me,” she says. “I’d like to find something dark and edgy and provocative.”

Last year, Sheridan made a comedy pilot for CBS, playing an outrageous stage mother, but it wasn’t picked up. Now she is penning a series for herself–”something unusual and unexpected,” she says. She also voices a character in an upcoming animated film, Noah’s Ark: The New Beginning.

“I’d be open to singing, if the right thing came along,” Sheridan says. During her engagement to Michael Bolton, she sang vocals on his version of Frank Sinatra’s The Second Time Around.

Sheridan speaks fondly of her Desperate Housewives character. “Edie was outspoken, irreverent and often acerbic,” she says. “But she was honest and had heart, which is why I think people embraced her and admired her audacity. She was one of a kind.

“It’s quite a feat to pull off a bad girl and have people relate to her. The key is to somehow find a way to make her likeable. I thoroughly enjoyed creating and playing Edie. I do miss her. She was a big part of my life for five years.”

To keep herself busy, Sheridan is designing her own lingerie line, which, she says, “Will be for all shapes and sizes.” She has also spent the last three years designing and overseeing construction of a second home outside Los Angeles, where she keeps her four horses.

“It’s a cozy cross between an English and French chateau,” she says. “It’s extremely rewarding to have a vision, put it on paper and bring it to life. I drew up the plans for the landscaping and the pool. I’ve done everything. I spend a lot of time out there because of my bond with my horses and dog. And I ride almost every day.”

When she’s acting, Sheridan stays in her small Hollywood Hills home. “I could never give it up because it’s a piece of my childhood,” she says. “And it’s perfectly located to get to all the studios.” She bought it in 1989, during her seven-year run on Knots Landing.

Sheridan, who was born in England and spent her first decade there, didn’t plan to become an actress. But she wound up in Hollywood when she was 10, after her actress mother, Sally Adams, decided to relocate there with her then-boyfriend, Kojak actor Telly Savalas.

As a teenager, Sheridan turned to modeling. And that led to acting. She made her film debut in The Sure Thing and then landed her role on Knots Landing.

“When I was young, I was a control freak,” the actress says. “I was a great organizer. That was my sense of control. I liked having an orderly house, having everything clean and aesthetically pleasing. I found some sort of comfort in that. I’ve definitely worked on letting that go. Like my Honeymoon for One character, I try to leave myself open to see what life offers up.”

In the film, her character pulls back from marriage at the last minute. Sheridan herself has been married once — to actor Harry Hamlin for two years when she was in her 20s. After a lengthy relationship with Bolton, she began dating Steve Pate, whom she describes as “half-businessman, half-cowboy. We’ve been together for the last couple of years.

“Some people find safety in the institution of marriage or some sort of a further commitment. Others think that if you’re in a very happy relationship, why mess with it? Marriage has never been something I’ve needed to have in my life. I’ve always been extremely independent.”

Her Honeymoon for One character is childless and blames it on her busy career. Sheridan’s situation is similar. “I’ve been guilty of that,” she admits. “I could say doing what I’ve wanted to do with my life could be looked at as being selfish. But I think it’s a healthy selfish, because if you’re really not ready to (have children), it’s not the right thing to do.

“That’s not to say that I don’t love children,” she adds, “because I do. I’m around them because most of my friends have children. And I’m a big child myself.”

Sheridan’s horses serve as her children. “I grew up in the English countryside and had a passion for horses at a very young age,” she says. “I love grooming them, bathing them, riding them, training them, reprogramming their brains so that they trust and love you.”

September 17 It’s Donation Time
2010

Here’s a little recap in case you missed it before. Nicollette teamed up with Natural Balance Pet Foods for National Guide Dog Month this September to raise money to train dogs for those visually impaired. I decided it was a good time to show our support as fans and make a group donation in her name.

September 1 Holidays
2010

Just letting you know I’ll be away for a week so no updates will be made. However if I find out something, it’s very probable I’ll be able to update via twitter. So follow NSN if you’re not doing it already.

I’m still accepting (not that I’ll reject anybody) people to participate on the fan donation for Guide Dog in name of Nicollette. Join us! It’s a great cause and we can make Nicollette proud of her fans. I only ask for $5, that’s so little for one person but can do much. E-mail me if you’re interested.

See you all next week

nicolletteToday I have to ask you something. The idea of making a joint donation in name of Nicollette to any charity close to her heart has always been on my mind, but I needed to know what charity she was fully collaborating with. Since right now she has partnered with Natural Balance to support different Guide Dogs organizations across the USA, I think this is a great time to do it and show her our support as fans.

So far I only need to know who is willing to participate. Once I know there are enough people interested, I will contact the people in charge to ask how it could be done, as a group of fans and from outside the States. E-mail me to caro@nicollette-sheridan.net or nicollettenetwork@gmail.com and I’ll get back to you when I have all the details to donate.

I know this might be a bad moment for almost everybody (including myself) to give money, but I couldn’t let go this oportunity. I think Nicollette would be happy to know we, as fans, support her and the causes she believes in.

Here’s how you can collaborate in an particular way to the campaign.

Nicollette Sheridan Joins Natural Balance Pet Foods® and Petco For National Guide Dog Month

Nicollette Sheridan joins the cause for guide dogs alongside Natural Balance Pet Foods, PETCO and select pet stores. Customers can donate $1 by purchasing specially marked bags of Natural Balance dog food with Nicollette Sheridan’s picture on them.

Nicollette Sheridan is teaming with Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Pet Foods, PETCO and independent pet stores to raise money and awareness for organizations for guide dogs across the country and to celebrate National Guide Dog Month in September .

“I’ve always loved dogs, and this is a special way to celebrate the unique bond between dogs and their owners,” said Nicollette Sheridan. “It takes over two years and $40,000 to properly train a guide dog. Together, we can help make a difference for this important cause.”

Throughout September, pet parents can visit any of PETCO’s more than 1,000 locations nationwide, as well as many independent pet stores, and buy specially marked bags of Natural Balance dog food with Nicollette Sheridan’s picture on them to donate $1 of the purchase price to participating guide dog schools. PETCO shoppers can also “round up” their purchases at the register to donate the difference to the cause, or donate money at the register, or make donations directly online at http://www.petco.com/.

All proceeds from these National Guide Dog Month activities will be donated to participating guide dog training facilities nationwide. Recipients include:

Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc.
Guide Dogs of the Desert
Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, Inc.
Southeastern Guide Dogs
Leader Dogs for the Blind
The Seeing Eye, Inc.

June 19 One Year Online!
2010

It’s been a long way, but NSN celebrates its first anniversary today; June 19, 2010.
More than 21,000 visits, over 15,000 images on the gallery viewed more than 50,000 times in just 365 days. I’m really grateful for that. During this year, we’ve gone through good (the news of the pilot) and bad (the pilot not being picked up and the much talked about lawsuit) things but we’re still here supporting Nicollette.

Now the website features two beautiful layouts using Paper Dolls (the site, made by Jennifer) and Knots Landing (the gallery, made by Kevin) images to remember her early projects.
I also have a new twitter layout and profile picture on @ns_network. If you’re not following, do it to never miss an update and we can share opinions on everything Nicollette and not-Nicollette related.

I hope we can celebrate more birthdays and with more great news. Right now, the news I’d love to give is Noah’s Ark will be finally released after being more than 2 years on post-production.
The goal I want to achieve with this website is to be the place where everybody comes to know about Nicollette’s career, but that will only be able thanks to YOU.
